Cross Wedge Rolling (CWR) is a new metal forming process in which cylindrical billet is plastically deformed into a long axial part through many steps with the rotating double-wedge mould. Rollers with two wedge-shaped dies move counter-rotating, and the billet suffers complex deformation, including compression in radial direction, elongation in axial direction and circumferential flow, during its rotation among the rotation dies.

In comparison with conventional manufacturing processes, i.e. machining, forging, or casting, the CWR Process is characterized by many advantages, particularly the following: high efficiency (up to 1000 parts/hour); better material utilization; higher strength parameters of the products; reduced energy consumption; facilitated automation; and environment harmlessness.
