The reverse osmosis equipment (RO) could be applied in both the preparation of process water and purified drinking water.
Reverse osmosis (RO): When the solution exerts a pressure bigger than the osmotic pressure, the solvent will move in a direction opposite to the normal osmotic phenomenon. The RO's principle is basically the same as the ultra-filtration, but the RO membrane's bore diameter is smaller than that of the ultra-filtration membrane. The entrapped grain area is 0.1-1.0mm. It can entrap not only high-molecular substances but also low-molecular ones like inorganic salt, sugar and amino acid, so the substance going through the RO membranes almost pure water. Due to a big osmotic pressure different between the raw liquid and the osmotic liquid, it's necessary to use a pressure bigger than such an osmotic pressure for reverse osmosis, so the reverse osmosis working pressure is over 2MPa generally. Seawater and fresh water need a pressure even up to 5-10MPa. However, the ultra-filtration can be conducted under a low pressure.
