The word psyllium originated from a Greek word for a flea, referring to the size, shape, and whitish color of the seed, which is the commercially important part of this plant. Psyllium is the common name used for several members of the plant genus Plantago whose seeds are used commercially for the production of mucilage. The kind Plantago contains over 200 species. Psyllium is the husk of the seed of the Plantain and is a top herb used in weight control and for general intestinal health.

Psyllium Seeds

Psyllium seeds is an medicinal plant product of dried ripe seeds of plantago ovata forks (farm. Plantaginancae) and it has been cleaned free for all dust, agri farm fibers, wastes, mud, stones and iron particles.

Psyllium Husk Seed consist of the eighth layer of dried ripe seeds of plantago Ovataforsk (Seed) and it has been cleaned free for all dust, agri farm fibers, wastes, mud, stones and iron particles. Psyllium Husks cover the seeds, which is the part of the plant used in foods. Psyllium husk seed contains glycosides and mucilage. Psyllium seeds contain about 19% fiber, 18.8% protein, and 10-20% triglycerides. Psyllium seed husk is 34% insoluble fiber and 66% soluble fiber, providing an optimal division of both types that make it a valuable food additive.

Psyllium Husk

Psyllium husk is white fibrous material derived from the outer coating of the psyllium seed, like the bran layer of grains. The husk of Psyllium is the actual coating of mucilage around the seed. It is considered pure dietary fiber and is the only part of the plant used in manufacturing Psyllium products. There are several species of psyllium, but the seed husks from Plantago ovata, also known as blonde psyllium, are the best quality and have the highest fiber content.

Psylium Husk Processing

Process consists of mainly a complete cleaning of seeds at the Pre-cleaning and Cleaning sections. Then moving to the Grinding Section where the clean seeds are passed through grinding mills at eight passes along with separation of husk through a closed circuit. The husk is then passed through Gravity separators for further purification before custom packaging.
